The Butch Miles Jazz Festival: February 7, 2026

The Butch Miles Jazz Festival!

On February 7, 2026,the great Gregg Bissonette and I  will be headlining the Butch Miles Jazz Festival at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. This wonderful event is under the direction of Jazz Studies Director and bassist Dr.Utah Hamrick.

Originally The Hill Country Jazz Festival (38 years!) the event was recently renamed The Butch Miles Jazz Festivsl in honor of the beloved drummer Butch Miles who was famously the long-time featured powerhouse artist with the World Famous Count Basie Orchestra (among MANY other groups), and for 14 years, the jazz drumest instructor at Texas State University.

Butch was a treasure and a joy for all who knew him and had the chance to work with him. It will be quite an honor for me to take part in this show!

In fact, I wrote a new piece just for the event that will feature myself and Gregg. It’s titled “Gregg and Steve’s Excellent Adventure.” (See the demo video below) If you dig the chart, it will soon be available for purchase right here at steve-wiest.com

Stay tuned!

Hope to see you all in San Marcos in February!
