Roksahg The Merciless
Also from the “Groove Quest” educational series, “Roksahg” is a rocked out Led Zeppelin-influenced groove reminiscent of Jimmy Page’s “Kashmir.” “A” sections feature a heroic trombone soli melody followed by a crunchy bridge section. Written for a three tenor and one bass trombone section with a separate solo trombone part. The solo section has an unaccompanied rubato cadenza in the middle that leads into a final solo section before returning to the bridge that finally becomes a shout chorus for the band at a faster tempo.
This is an unusual one for contrasting programming within a set. A crowd pleaser for sure!
Highest note in the lead trumpet is a Bb above the staff, standard alto-tenor-bari saxophone section (no doubles). University or good high school level.
