Showme Shuffle

Commissioned by the wonderful Joel Griffith for the Evangel University Jazz Orchestra, Showme Shuffle is based on the famous Jeff Porcaro’s take on the Purdy Shuffle on the Toto song “Rossana.” This exciting and challenging groove is written out for drums and is quite playable with added listening to Jeff on the Toto recording. Featuring a simple theme based on quarter notes that builds towards a soulful bridge, there is space for multiple soloists with everyone having both chord changes and backgrounds to choose from. After the solos there is a nice send off to a big shout chorus that brings us back to the original theme and a solid ending. Highest note for lead trumpet is a concert Bb above the staff, standard saxophones with no doubles. University or good high school level.
