Stompin’ at The Grafton

Another offering from the educationally-based “Groove Quest” series by Wiest, Stompin’ at the Grafton is in the style of the Thad Jones favorite “The Groove Merchant.” Similar changes as Groove Merchant with an epic sax soli with solo trombone doubling the lead alto part. Written for a three tenor one bass trombone section and a separate solo trombone along with four trumpets and a standard saxophone section with no doubles, this groovin’ chart is playable by universities and good high schools. Rhythm section (guitar, piano, bass, and drums) have written shuffle-groove parts with educational annotations and chord symbols. Guitar and piano have suggested voicings for comping as well. Solo section for trombone but can be opened for other soloists easily. A must-have for any library!
