Ted Talk

This is a very high level modern straight ahead swing piece with an unusual instrumentation.Written for Ted Hogarth’s “Mulligan Mosaics” group here in Chicago. In the style of the great Gerry Mulligan’s Concert Jazz Band, the instrumentation is lead tenor, alto, tenor II, bari, and solo bari, bass trumpet (or valve trombone), tenor trombone, bass trombone, three trumpets, bass and drums. Based on Bob Brookmeery’s “Hello and Goodbye” there are seriously crunchy voicings and textures along with some challenging keys changes. The highest note in the lead trumpet part is a concert Db above the staff. Definitively an advanced university of pro-level chart. Solo space for tenor trombone and solo bari.
