How better to begin a new podcast show than with the current lead trombonist with the Count Basie Orchestra and genre-bending Renaissance man, Dr. Isrea Butler?! Well that’s exactly what happened, and it could not have been a better choice to start this ball rolling.

This was Season ONE, Episode ONE of what was then called the “Leadology Podcast.” The show was trombonists only and was in conjunction with my book “Leadology.” In fact, at that time, I had a website devoted specifically to the art of lead trombone and the book and was trying to cultivate a community. In so doing, I invited anyone who wanted to to take part to the LIVE taping of the show.

Cool idea…a bit too “niche” to try right from the start of said community however, so I did away with that aspect of the new podcast. But on that first show we had a couple of cats show up including the legendary performer/conductor/educator Dr. John “Doc” Marcellus: Professor Emeritus DELUXE from the Eastman School of Music and one of Isrea’s former teachers. This fortuitous occurrence takes on even more weight now that the great man has left this mortal coil. It is fun indeed to hear Doc talking with Isrea once again.

So, take a dive back into history itself and join us for the very first episode of what would eventually become You Dig!

*And just to set the record straight, when we were talking about “Isrea Standard Time” we should have been saying “Wiestian New Math” because it was MY fault in starting the show so early as I had miscalculated the time differences across this great nation. D’OH! So Isrea was right on time😍 and I need to study math🙃

(“Isrea Standard Time” is STILL a great chart title, however😛)
