GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY! We live in SUCH wonderful times, folks.

Ok…when is the last time you saw THAT sentence on social media? For that matter, when is the last time you saw a SENTENCE on social media? (Ok…I see them all the time, but mine is a diverse and bewildering FaceBook feed indeed🙃)

I stand by that opening sentence however, and here is one of the MANY reasons why:

The Age of the Podcast

The audio-only version podcast is very similar to radio in many ways, but when one adds video to the podcast equation, you get what is fast becoming an alternative to the old talk show format. There are BIG differences of course. The biggest being a house band (alas) a live audience (also alas…although there are exceptions) But the advantages are incredible:

1. Independence! A true egalitarian setup. The indie aspect of podcasts make for some WONDERFUL viewing! The drawback here: unless you are a big time individual…there is ZERO money in it.

2. An even playing field. EVERYONE is welcome. Even I have a podcast (you dig?) While many, including myself, don’t make any money (yet) from it, ALL of us (thanks to YouTube) have access to the pulpit DELUXE!

3. An INFINITE raft of subjects. From niche subjects and themes, to wildly popular fare that everyone can dig.

These are great days indeed.

So, why is William Shatner the featured video here? Because, thanks to the golden age of podcasting, I STUMBLED (well if one can call content that is controlled by an algorithm designed to give you what you seem to want a “stumble”) I stumbled upon this delightful discussion between one of my favorite people, Bill Shatner, and host Michael Moynihan. WOWZA! Regardless of how Mr. Shatner may be in “real life” the persona he affects here is all the evidence you need that there is indeed a fountain of youth available to one-and-all. In Bill’s case, said deterrent to aging is having a FEROCIOUS need for knowledge, the act of WANTING to learn something new every day. Man, THAT is what I strive for and it is truly inspiring to see my boy Captain Kirk doing SUCH a fine job with it. You GO, Admiral! How inspirational.

And thank you Golden Age of Podcasts!
