One of the more unusual things about life here in the U.S. is our modern society’s penchant to constantly advertise drugs. It seems that somehow, we as regular folk are supposed to convince our doctors to purchase the newest item from the big pharmaceutical companies. But somewhere along the line (amazingly) a SERIOUS law was passed with enough potential litigious teeth that these drug corporations are forced to list ALL side effects that their “wonder drugs” might cause…if it’s possible that these side effects might happen–no matter how statistically remote–they had better list it, or get sued.
This of course leads to hilarious lists of horrible and frightening possibilities that completely destroys the otherwise miraculous vibe of these commercials. And THAT is a very fertile field indeed for cartoonists! 😛
